Transaction Fees

This page describes the blockchain transaction fees on AETRON. These are the ordinary on-chain fees for submitting transactions, separate from registration fees or emission.

Reading chain state is always free. Fees apply only to transactions that change state.

Weight-Based Fees

Most transactions that mutate state pay a small weight-based fee, where weight measures how much compute the transaction takes. Heavier operations cost more; simple ones cost very little.

  • Paid in AET, from the sender's available balance.
  • Proportional to weight, so the fee tracks the real work the network does to process the transaction.

Staking and Unstaking Fees

Staking operations carry an additional value-based fee on top of the weight fee, charged as a small percentage of the amount involved. Moving stake between Neuronets incurs this percentage fee; moving it within the same Neuronet does not add anything beyond the weight fee.

Where Fees Go

Transaction fees are recycled, not burned. They are returned to the emission system rather than destroyed, which keeps the total supply intact and consistent with AET's fixed cap. See Token Recycling for how recycled value flows back into block rewards, and Token Burn for the cases where AET is actually destroyed.

Free Transactions

Some transactions carry no fee, including reading any chain state and certain administrative and governance operations. The goal is to avoid charging for actions that the network needs participants to perform.
